They have a 150 year old reginaphone that they play while they complimentary morning coffee in the morning. The staff were great and even offered to play us different records from it. Truely a unique and amazing experience. Couple that with wonderful tatami room and onsen, we had a wonderful time!

We stayed here for only one night, but had a pleasant stay. We got an upgraded room for free (without asking for it). Originally we had a Japanese style room with shared bathroom, but we got a bigger room with our own bathroom. It was a nice surprise! The reception and lobby area was really cozy, and there is free self-service coffee. Our room also had a folder with some tips for the nearby area. We got breakfast curry at the hotel's recommendation. It was good!

This onsen hotel only provides lodging without meals. There is no need for you to arrive early for dinner. The lobby is well decorated with old items particularly the old gramophone. The gramophone is played by the staff in the morning with records made of brass (?) but not vinyl and the music is still good. You can enjoy a cup of coffee, free of charge, while listening to the music. The staff will let you have a try to turn the handle of the gramophone. The room is spacious and futon is comfortable.

If you want to see what 'shabby chic' really means, this is the place. Unique atmosphere and lovely staff — though not many, they have a gorgeous old car but no driver, for example! There's an amazing miniature museum for music boxes and old phonographs in the lobby, which you can enjoy during your morning coffee. The on-site spa needs about a gallon of wood oil and some serious de-scaling, but it's very peaceful and very warm, and you can stay in there all night long if you want to. The Japanese style rooms are lovely. Imagine you're visiting someone's great-aunt who used to be a glamorous film star, and has lived for decades in a massive old hotel she can't quite maintain. It's pure magic.

Very traditional ryokan giving the classic onsen experience. Tatami beds, clean rooms, beautiful furnishings. Staff was very friendly and helpful. He was very knowledgeable of the local specialties and recommendations. The onsen was excellent.

for Very traditional Japanese hotel that tells it golen history in the past. The lobby shows a lot of olddies like the gramaphone, the old black vinyl music records. Somehow, Takeo onsen is not as popular as some of the other places we visited. So there is no much night activities outside. The hotel only offers board. So, u need to look for food outside. We wanted local wegyu beef. Our hotel staff gave us an excellent recommendation and helped us to make a reservation. Hotel lobby offers tea and coffee for free and u can sit and sip to enjoy old music and reminiscent of it old glory. We loved every bit of it.

Wonderful, inciteful staff and a fascinating place to visit. The onsen itself was very pleasant and the facilities were largely clean and accessible. Do not miss the wonderful collection of music esoterica; antique gramophone, music boxes and records. It was wonderful to speak with the staff about this beautiful collection.

I choosed a tatami room with private bathroom. Everything was clean and comfortable. Besides the great Onsen the lobby is a big highlight. It's like a museum, you really want to spend time in it. To my biggest surprise the owner spoke German. She took some time and showed me around. The still working gramophone is amazing. Kyotoya is in walking distance from the train station.

The whole hotel well loved and maintained by the staffs. The room is large, with many comfortable facilities. The tatami smell is nice. The public bath house is great too. And I love the coffee lounge and the lobby antique display. As the hotel is at the Takeo onsen area, nearby there are many cute shops that has good food and cute things to sell.

A historical ryokan...a walk into the early 20th century featuring a working gramophone Due to the reduced services offered...their rate to stay overnight is much lower than othet ryokans around the area
