If you want to see what 'shabby chic' really means, this is the place. Unique atmosphere and lovely staff — though not many, they have a gorgeous old car but no driver, for example! There's an amazing miniature museum for music boxes and old phonographs in the lobby, which you can enjoy during your morning coffee. The on-site spa needs about a gallon of wood oil and some serious de-scaling, but it's very peaceful and very warm, and you can stay in there all night long if you want to. The Japanese style rooms are lovely. Imagine you're visiting someone's great-aunt who used to be a glamorous film star, and has lived for decades in a massive old hotel she can't quite maintain. It's pure magic.

for Very traditional Japanese hotel that tells it golen history in the past. The lobby shows a lot of olddies like the gramaphone, the old black vinyl music records. Somehow, Takeo onsen is not as popular as some of the other places we visited. So there is no much night activities outside. The hotel only offers board. So, u need to look for food outside. We wanted local wegyu beef. Our hotel staff gave us an excellent recommendation and helped us to make a reservation. Hotel lobby offers tea and coffee for free and u can sit and sip to enjoy old music and reminiscent of it old glory. We loved every bit of it.

This onsen hotel only provides lodging without meals. There is no need for you to arrive early for dinner. The lobby is well decorated with old items particularly the old gramophone. The gramophone is played by the staff in the morning with records made of brass (?) but not vinyl and the music is still good. You can enjoy a cup of coffee, free of charge, while listening to the music. The staff will let you have a try to turn the handle of the gramophone. The room is spacious and futon is comfortable.

We stayed here for only one night, but had a pleasant stay. We got an upgraded room for free (without asking for it). Originally we had a Japanese style room with shared bathroom, but we got a bigger room with our own bathroom. It was a nice surprise! The reception and lobby area was really cozy, and there is free self-service coffee. Our room also had a folder with some tips for the nearby area. We got breakfast curry at the hotel's recommendation. It was good!

I choosed a tatami room with private bathroom. Everything was clean and comfortable. Besides the great Onsen the lobby is a big highlight. It's like a museum, you really want to spend time in it. To my biggest surprise the owner spoke German. She took some time and showed me around. The still working gramophone is amazing. Kyotoya is in walking distance from the train station.
